State governor demands punishment for those responsible for ferry explosion

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The state governor of Quintana Roo says that whomever is responsible for the explosion of the ferry should be punished.

The governor of the state, Carlos Joaquín González, explained that if culpability is found in relation to the explosion of the Barcos Caribe vessel, there must be punishment since no one should attempt to disrupt the tranquility and stability of the state.

Joaquín González said that the issue of the explosion has not yet been resolved and that state government officials are still pending investigations and results by federal authorities.

“It is essential that everything is clarified. The government of the state has been very active in direct collaboration with the authorities, for now we do not know or have more progress, but we do ask that they work until the end to understand what happened and that there is punishment,” he said.

The statement comes after the February 21 explosion of a Barcos Caribe ferry that injured 26 and has resulted in travel alerts, fake news and social media hype and ongoing investigations.
