State arrests suspect in kidnapping, murder of Tulum union leader

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A young man has been arrested in the death of a former CAPA union representative of Tulum.

In a news release, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Quintana Roo says that they have executed an arrest warrant against 29-year-old Edgar E.A. originally from Tabasco as the alleged kidnapper and murderer of CAPA union leader, Marco Tulio Sansores Medrano.

The union leader of the Potable Water and Sewerage Commission was murdered and his body found on the Tulum-Playa del Carmen highway March 8.

Sansores Medrano was kidnapped in Tulum March 7 where he was forcefully removed from a bar. He was reportedly with four union colleagues, all of whom were said badly beaten during the kidnapping of Medrano.

His lifeless body was discovered the next morning by a security guard on the dirt road of a private ranch along the Playa del Carmen-Tulum highway. Investigations indicate that he was strangled.

La Fiscalía General del Estado says that they arrested Edgar E.A. in SM 99 of Playa del Carmen Saturday.

Since the murder, three others suspected of being involved in the death have also been taken into custody.
