Southwest Air takes over AirTran’s Mexico and Caribbean flights

Southwest Air will be another option for US passengers this travel season as the airline adds two international schedules to their flight route.Southwest spokesman Brad Hawkins announced that the company will be taking over AirTran’s international schedule and likely expand to add new destinations, however, there are no concrete plans just yet.

He explains, “We have precious slots and we have big plans. We’re pretty much everywhere we want to fly in the U.S. (and that) the airline can now start drawing new lines between very strong dots that are already on the map and Orange County is definitely one of those.”

Travelers wanting to head to Mexico and beyond this season can now add Southwest Air to the list of airlines as the carrier will be making Cancun, Los Cabos and Mexico City regular daily destinations. The airline will also be adding several new stops in the Caribbean.

As of November 2, Southwest Airlines will provide service to Mexico City and Punta Cana.

Service to San Jose and Costa Rica will begin March 7, 2015.

The company has already begun its international service into Cancun, Aruba and Montego Bay.
