solidarity summer clean up program collects 700 tons a day

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – More than 300 workers and 60 garbage collection vehicles have collected 700 tons of garbage prior to the beginning of the summer holiday season.

In an attempt to provide quality public services, the municipal government strengthened the work of garbage collection, street lighting, median cleaning and park cleaning, among other areas, so everyone can enjoy a clean Solidaridad.

“It is our duty as authorities to give tourists and Solidarenses the public services and quality to improve the areas that are essential for Solidarenses, as well as build a prosperous Solidarity that benefits everyone so the cleanliness of the city is essential. Also, we have the best team spirit and enthusiasm every day that give their best to serve the population, ” said Mayor Gongora Escalante.

The cleaning fleet of 300 workers and 60 trucks worked six days a week along 42 routes collecting an average of 500 tons of garbage a day. During the start of the summer months, those figures climbed to 700 tons per day.

At the request of the general population mostly through the citizen service number 072, municipal authorities also instructed workers to ensure all street and public lighting functioned properly to provide greater security for citizens. In response, 99 percent of street lighting is now operating properly.
