In the southern region, the epidemiological light also remains yellow. They too have a hospital occupancy rate of 10 percent, but a lower contagion rate of 0.8 points. He detailed that many municipalities have recorded decreases in covid cases, however, there are others who have reported increases.

Those with decreases include José María Morelos, Lázaro Cárdenas (Holbox), Tulum, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Isla Mujeres, Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras) and Othón P. Blanco (Mahahual, Chetumal).

Municipalities who have reported increases in covid cases include Puerto Morelos with a 14 percent increase, Cozumel with 110 percent, Benito Juárez (Cancun) with 4 percent and Bacalar with a 29 percent increase in reported cases.

Joaquin says he has officially requested that the COVID-19 vaccine application schemes be made more flexible to redirect the doses to second and third line medical personnel. He said that as of now, the federal government is not allowing the vaccine application system to be made more flexible.
