Isla Mujeres, Q.R. – A stranded dolphin found along an Isla Mjueres beach has been returned to the sea.
Paki, as he became known, was found sick and stranded on an Isla Mjueres beach were veterinarians from Dolphin Discovery took the mammal to their nearby facility for treatment. Paki remained in intensive care for nearly a month before he finally began to show signs of improvement.
According to a statement from island Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis, Paki is one example of their commitment to protect wildlife in the municipality through the Citizens Council for Animal Welfare and Protection.
In his statement, he said that thanks to the work and care of those at Dolphin Discovery as well as local islanders, Paki fully recovered and was released back into the wild.
Paki was found sick suffering severe dehydration and an intestinal infection. He was at the facility for a month-and-a-half before being deemed fully recovered.
