Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A shooting in the center of Playa del Carmen Tuesday night has left one injured and one dead.
Preliminary reports say the shooting occurred at 10:20 p.m. on Calle 20 between Fifth Avenue and 10th Avenue inside a handicraft business called Grace. Reports say the shooting occurred when the business was open and full of customers.
Although the reason for the attack remains unknown, the city of Playa del Carmen released a statement only confirming the death of one and injury of another in the incident, noting that no other people, including tourists or store personnel, were injured.
Elements of the municipal, state and federal police arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin their investigation.
The injured man was taken to the hospital. His health situation remains unknown. After the attack, the Ministry of Public Security in coordination with the municipal authorities activated heavy security protocols in the area.
