Semi driver leaves central Cancun without power for 11 hours after snagging overhead lines

Cancun, Q.R. — Dozens of Cancun homes and businesses were left without electricity after a semi trailer driver pulled down two sets of power lines. The incident happened in SM 8 of the city center when driver, Moises N, made contact with the overhead lines.

Failing to realize the height of his trailer, he snagged the overhead power lines, collapsing two concrete posts of high-voltage cables.

Dozens of homes and businesses, including one shopping plaza, government offices and banks, were without electricity for nearly 11 hours while CFE work crews made repairs.

There was no word on charges, if any, against the semi driver or the Puebla-based company he was driving for.
