Second person dies from Playa del Carmen New Year’s Day accident

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man involved in a New Year’s Day accident has reportedly died of his injuries. Authorities say that the passenger of an SUV involved in the three-vehicle crash is the second to die.

The first was a woman. The unnamed female was riding as a passenger in a taxi around 5:00 a.m. when it was hit by the SUV. She died on scene. Since then, the passenger of the SUV that is alleged to have caused the accident, has also died.

On January 1, a speeding SUV crashed into a Playa del Carmen taxi near the northern police filter, causing that taxi to crash into a third vehicle, which also happened to be a local taxi. The female passenger from the taxi had to be removed from the backseat by firemen.

The second deceased, the passenger of the SUV, is said to have been the father of the driver. Both occupants of the white SUV were taken to hospital. There is no update as to the status of the unidentified driver.
