Cancún, Q.R. — The Attorney General’s Office has reported the arrest of former Quintana Roo governor Roberto Borge Angulo.
The PGR announced the capture of the former governor who is accused of embezzling public funds, money laundering and improper property and land sales around the state. Borge Angulo was arrested as he was boarding a flight to Paris from Panama.
A warrant for his arrest was issued May 31. His whereabouts and detention were successful with coordinated efforts of the Deputy Attorney General for International Affairs and the Criminal Investigation Agency of the PGR, together with Interpol Panama.
Authorities learned Roberto Borge was staying in a hotel in Panama and had an itinerary to Paris, France. Four others are also facing arrest warrants along with the ex-governor.
