Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – The popular tourist region of Mexico’s Riviera Maya has been given the 2016 Wave Award by TravelAge West.
The distinctive award was presented in the category of Destination with the highest client satisfaction in Mexico for the 2016 year. The Riviera Maya beat out other popular destinations such as Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerta Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit.
Executive head of Quintana Roo and president of the Tourism Commission of the National Conference of Governors (Conago) said that the Riviera Maya is a destination preferred by tourists for its natural beauty and high quality of services.
The president recalled that during the last Tianguis of Mexico 2016, which was held in Guadalajara, Quintana Roo won 20 awards including the 2016 TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice for Best Destination Mexico, which was awarded to Playa del Carmen.
Current state governor, Roberto Borge, added that over the last five years, various destinations in the state of Quintana Roo have attracted about 65 million visitors.
The Riviera Maya is a distinctive region along the coast of Quintana Roo that includes Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. The annual awards were held June 15 in Marina del Rey, California. The award for the Riviera Maya was received by director of Tourism and Promotion of the Riviera Maya, Dario Flota Ocampo.
