Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Riviera Maya has been voted the best scuba diving destination in the world for 2019 along with Isla Mujeres, Cozumel and Tulum.

The votes were cast by scuba divers around the world and published in Scuba Diving Magazine who say that for 2019, their Reader’s Choice Awards took into account votes from more than 5,000 divers who picked the world’s best scuba diving.

For Best Overall Dive Destination, Riviera Maya, Mexico was voted first for the Caribbean and Atlantic regions followed by Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Bonaire and Turks and Caicos. The region was voted first place for its centoes and underwater photography opportunities.

Voted by global scuba divers as the best diving for Big Animals was Isla Mujeres, who made the list with Bahamas, Belize, Turks and Caicos and Cayman Islands.

Global divers also voted on the Best Dive Operators, which for Mexico, included Dive with Martin, Cozumel, Scuba Club Cozumel, Dive Paradise, Cozumel, Pro Dive International – Mexico and Aldora Divers also of Cozumel.

For the Best Dives in the World, global divers voted Palancar Reef at Cozumel as the best for the Caribbean and Atlantic, however, that was not the only place to make the list. Divers also voted Devil’s Throat/Punta Sur, Cozumel, Barracuda Reef, Cozumel and Dos Ojos at Tulum.

Scuba Diving Magazine says that their Reader’s Choice Survey, which is in its 26th year, is voted on by thousands of global subscribers and online users by rating their experiences at dive destinations in a variety of categories on a scale from 1 to 5.

They say final scores are an average of the numerical scores awarded. A minimum number of responses was required for a destination to be included in these ratings.
