Rescued dolphin improving, may be released soon

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. – A rescued dolphin two weeks ago is showing great signs of improvement.

Head Dolphin Discovery veterinarian, Roberto Sánchez Okrucry, says the infection they found in the young dolphin is under control and he is now eating on his own. While still under medical care, the dolphin is responding well to medication and still needs to regain about 20 kilos before being considered healthy again.

“He has to gain more weight, about 20 kilograms more, then after that we could start talking to authorities for a possible release,” he explained.

The dolphin was found in shallow waters off the shores of Isla Mujeres where it was taken to Dolphin Discovery for recovery.
