Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun was one of several hit hard by a deluge of heavy rain that landed the region Tuesday afternoon. Due to the amount of rain, the Directorate of Civil Protection activated Operation Storm that arrived with the entrance of cold front 23.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection Antonio de Jesús Riveroll Ribbon said most of the city’s emergency personnel were out helping to clear streets, deal with residents, motorists and emergency calls. He says personnel from Municipal Public Services, H. Fire Department, Siresol and Traffic were also out.

He said prior its arrival, the city of Cancun had 150 public service workers out in 10 brigades dealing with the cleaning of street drains and tree pruning where appropriate to avoid flooding and facilitate road traffic.

However, Mother Nature had her way, leaving several key roadways flooded to city traffic and residents alike including Tulum, Kabah, Nichupté, Yaxchilán, Uxmal, Huayacán, Av. 135 and Chichén Itzá Avenue, among others.
