Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A recently dismissed Tulum police officer has been arrested by Playa del Carmen police after a traffic stop found ammunition and tactical gear in his vehicle.
The General Directorate of Public Safety and Traffic reported the arrest of José N on Tuesday night in the Solidaridad police filter. The department reported that after a review of the vehicle in which José was traveling, police found 184 cartridges, a ballistic vest and a ballistic helmet.
When questioned about the possession of the equipment, the detainee stated that he was an active police officer of the General Directorate of Public Security of Tulum. When officials checked to verify his identity in the AFIS System, they discovered that he had been dismissed from his job on May 4 of this year. They proceeded to arrest him.
José N was transferred to the Public Safety facilities along with the VW Jetta with state of Tlaxcala plates that he was driving.
