Recent cold front wreaked havoc on Holbox streets says Civil Protection

Holbox, Q.R. — Members of Civil Protection and the fire department scramble to remove thousands of liters of settled water from Holbox roadways after Cold Front No. 10 hit the region.

Alejandro de Jesús Erosa Betancourt, director of Civil Protection of the Municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, says Cold Front 10 wreaked havoc on the streets of Holbox from rain and strong winds. He says crews have been out for days removing the excess water from town streets to avoid a bad image of the island.

He explained that the men have been busy sucking up the excess water from the center of town, working their way toward the outskirts. He says so far, they have removed nearly 100,000 liters of water with their equipment and are expecting another similar amount in coming days.

He noted that they are hoping to have the streets back to normal by the weekend. Holbox is currently hosting the island’s gastronomic show, Comer, Amar y Contemplar that has attracted 18 international chefs and thousands of visitors.
