Random check finds crate of marijuana at parcel company

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A random inspection at a Playa del Carmen parcel company turned up over 13 kilos of marijuana.

Officials from the Regional Security Division in Quintana Roo brought a K9 sniffer dog into a central parcel delivery service company in Playa del Carmen Sunday. The German Shepard quickly honed in on two large boxes that had been shipped from Zapopan, Jalisco bound for an address in Playa del Carmen.

Federal authorities said that both packages, which were wrapped with plastic, were located with the help of their canine who found nearly 13.5 kilos of the drug.

The National Security Commission reported the finding occurred when Federal Police officers carried out random checks, one of which was at a parcel company in the center of Playa del Carmen.

The drugs have been placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry who will continue with the investigation to locate those responsible for the shipments.
