After five days of traveling, the Rally Maya 2015 ended with a flourish in Cancun. Amid a festive atmosphere, more than 110 classic cars paraded at Tajamar Malecon.
More than 110 classic and vintage vehicles, some of which date back to 1922, arrived in Merida in early April to participate in the 1,200 km (745 mile) race that was set in three stages.
The tour began on April 4 in Mérida and took cars and their drivers along the archaeological sites of Mayapan and Chichen Itza, tourist destinations of Playa del Carmen, Cancun and places in between.
This was the second edition of the Rally Mexico Maya.
The route of these classic cars, spanning several points of the Yucatan Peninsula which is essential part of the “Mundo Maya”, made their way to Campeche.
“It is important to note that the Rally is not a speed race but a precision competition“, explained Rafael Machado, one of the event organizers.
“It consists in meeting an establish time during check points, and also to not be over or below certain speeds .”
After the formal ceremony, the State Secretary of Tourism, Ancona Saul Salazar said that such events help promote the destinations of the region, because people ” upload many photos and videos onto social networks.”
Ancona Salazar clarified that it intended to have other editions of the Rally Maya, it benefits the Yucatan Peninsula, from Quintana Roo, Yucatan and Campeche some municipalities.
