Quintana Roo receives 20 awards during Mexico Tourism Tianguis

Cancun, Q.R. — The state of Quintana Roo walked away with 20 awards during the recent Mexico Tourism Tianguis 2016 event held in Guadalajara.

State governor, Roberto Borge Angulo, returned from the event with 20 of TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice 2016 awards. The awards, which are given based on millions of unbiased opinions from global travelers, recognized the state for best destinations and best beaches.

Specifically, Playa del Carmen was awarded first place for the Best Destination in Mexico, while Cancun took second place and  Tulum, fifth. Playa del Carmen also ranked 19 out of 25 for top tourist destination in the world.

Borge explained that, “Annually TripAdvisor awards best of the best in the tourism sector in different categories that reflect the positive experiences of tourists who visit destinations in Mexico and the world.”

Numerous beaches around the state were also recognized as being the best in the world as well as many hotels. Rosewood Mayakoba , Playa del Carmen was honored with first place as the Best Hotel in Mexico while Belmond Maroma Resort and Spa in Playa Maroma, took second and Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun, Puerto Morelos took seventh.

Other recognized hotels include Excellence Playa Mujeres, Isla Mujeres, El Dorado Maroma, a Beachfront Resort, by Karisma, Riviera Maya, Zilara Hyatt Cancun, The Royal Playa del Carmen, Grand Residences Riviera Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Beloved Playa Mujeres, Isla Mujeres, El Dorado Casitas Royale, by Karisma Riviera Maya, Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso, Playa del Carmen and Playacar Palace, Playa del Carmen, who came in 23rd position.
