Quintana Roo is the only orange state in Mexico

Cancun, Q.R. — An updated Covid epidemiological light by the Ministry of Health for the week of May 24 shows 16 green states (low risk of contagion) across the country. The update also shows 15 yellow states, states that represent a medium risk of contagion.

In a press conference at the National Palace, the Undersecretary of Health Hugo López-Gatell, affirmed that “if the trend continues and stability in epidemic control continues, the entities that are on that path will also go green.”

Although there are still no red states, which represent the highest risk of contagion, the Ministry of Health did mention that there remains one orange state in the country, which is Quintana Roo. For the week of May 24, Quintana Roo is the only state with an orange epidemiological light, a state labeled with a high risk of contagion.

This is the third week that the state has remained orange after regressing backward from yellow before the spring break and Easter holidays.

On Saturday, the states of Campeche and Nayarit announced the suspension of face-to-face classes due to an increase in covid figures. Both states had reached a green epidemiological light, but have regressed back to yellow after a rise in infections.
