Puerto Morelos taking part in first tourism fair

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. – The new municipality of Puerto Morelos is taking part in its first tourism promotion fair being held in Acapulco this week.

From March 26 to 30, the city of Acapulco is hosting Tianguis Turístico 2017, a fair considered the most important in Latin America. Officials of Puerto Morelos reported that the municipality has more than 5,000 hotel rooms with a variety of tourist attractions. Part of these attractions includes solid infrastructure and one of the largest coral reef systems on the continent.

Puerto Morelos mayor Laura Fernandez de Piña said that the objective is to increase tourism promotion both nationally and internationally in the municipality, which is located between Cancun and Riviera Maya, pointing out that Puerto Morelos is the main port of Quintana Roo.

During the Tourism Tianguis, local government officials will hold various business meetings to publicize tourist offers in order to increase the number of visitors, which will help generate more employment and greater economic output.

Another goal is to boost the town’s small hotels with a new system called All Experience, which will combine accommodation nights with visits to different restaurants and other attractions to provide a complete experience to tourists.

Among the projects, Fernández de Piña mentioned that discussions have already begun with the Mexican airline Aeromar to open the Mérida-Cancún flight-route in the first quarter of the year to offer packages to attract regional tourism.

Logitravel, one of the leading Spanish travel agencies, will also join in the promotion of Puerto Morelos with its more than eight million customers with whom it maintains contact in Europe and America.

On the promotion agenda is also Canadian wholesale Sunwing Travel Group, who are in the works to create strategies to increase the sale of hotel rooms in the municipality. In recent years, Sunwing has been responsible for connecting tourists to the state of Quintana Roo with numerous cities in Canada and the United States.

During the Tourism Tianguis, officials of Puerto Morelos are hoping to create a destination image using virtual tours of their main tourist attractions.

This is the 42nd edition of the Tourism Tianguis, of which this year, 80 countries are expected to participate.
