Puerto Morelos steps up sanitary protocols for summer vacation

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — With the rise in covid infections, the tourism sector of Puerto Morelos reports additional health measures to provide security to both industry workers and tourists. Héctor Tamayo Sánchez, the municipal secretary for Economic Development and Tourism, says that it is imperative to comply with the protocols that have been established to prevent coronavirus outbreaks from emerging in the municipality, especially now that infections have risen across the state.

During the first full week of summer vacation, Tamayo Sánchez noted that the average occupancy rate, according to the Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association, has been 57.3 percent.

He says some days have seen a fluctuation of one or two points, adding that they are anticipating a good summer season.

“We are seeing a great movement of visitors who are arriving in the destinations of Quintana Roo, among them Puerto Morelos,” he said stressing that “the Cancun International Airport registered around 500 operations per day over the weekend with a greater number of international arrivals, mainly from the United States, which is our main market.”

“We have been named a main adventure destination in Mexico thanks to the attractions that are offered in the Route of the Cenotes and the Mesoamerican Reef,” he pointed out.

“We want to continuing betting on the economic reactivation that is benefiting tourist services providers and local families, therefore we reinforce the calls to all visitors and residents to comply with the hygiene rules and also with the young people of the state program who invite us to wear face masks correctly and to give one to those who are without,” he added.
