Puerto Morelos part of reforestation program

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Puerto Morelos will be one of the municipalities to benefit from a government reforestation program.

More than 59 million peso has been set aside for the reforestation of varying lands in Quintana Roo. The National Forestry Commission (Conafor) says that 59.7 million peso has been allocated for plant production, reforestation, maintenance and protection of the ecosystem to compensate for the loss of vegetation in forested lands.

While Solidaridad is not part of the program, areas that will benefit from the project include the municipalities of Othón P. Blanco, Bacalar, José María Morelos, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Puerto Morelos with the restoration of more than 1.9 million plants over 2,889 hectares.

The resources, which are from deposits made to the Mexican Forest Fund, will be used for reforestation and restoration of forest land with degradation of soils or areas affected by fires, pests and natural disasters.
