Puerto Morelos nearly sold out for long holiday weekend

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Puerto Morelos experienced a near full capacity over the long holiday weekend with reports showing an above 90 percent occupancy rate.

Municipal president Laura Fernández Piña says that Puerto Morelos has positioned itself as a brand in both the national and international tourism market, which has provided a 10 percent increase in visitors so far this year.

“We have maintained room occupancies above expectations with around 80 percent average throughout the year, something that shows Puerto Morelos has become a destination for tour operators and travel agencies,” she said.

According to data from the Hotel Association of Cancun and Puerto Morelos, during Christmas Eve, the town’s 7,000 hotel rooms registered an average occupancy well above 90 percent.

“The synergy of work has allowed Puerto Morelos to be transformed in all areas and improve the quality of life of the population. We are going for more for our Charming Village in 2018, with projects that will transform the face of the tourist zone,” she said.

Laura Fernández explained that before Puerto Morelos was promoted as a complement to Cancun and Riviera Maya, but now with its own identity, it has managed to consolidate itself as a tourist brand in Mexico.

“We participate in the most important national and international tourism fairs to offer Puerto Morelos as a place that has everything needed to enjoy the best holidays: 18 kilometers of beaches and 35 of the Ruta de los Cenotes, grand tourism hotels and for all pockets, nature, gastronomy, history and culture,” she said.
