Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The recent long weekend in Mexico saw the seaside town of Puerto Morelos resembling that of typical high season, said mayor Laura Fernández Piña.
This past weekend, which was a long weekend in Mexico due to Constitution Day, saw both domestic and foreign visitors flock to the town of Puerto Morelos resulting in a 90 percent occupancy rate in downtown hotels.
Laura Fernández Piña, municipal mayor, said that “During the whole weekend our tourist area looked as if we were in high season with domestic and foreign tourists visiting the restaurants, shops, beaches, our emblematic Ventana al Mar and the main park.
She said that visitors were also “Hiring tours to the reef, and in short, enjoying everything we offer here, including the Ruta de los Cenotes and the communities of Leona Vicario and Central Vallarta.”
She added that a key point for the tourist success this long weekend was the unbeatable weather that was registered in Puerto Morelos after weeks in which cold and rain reigned.
“In addition, we must add that the parties of our Carnival, which started on February 1 and conclude on Tuesday, also attracted visitors from various parts of the state and the region, who stayed overnight in our destination, making it almost impossible to find available rooms,” she noted.
Laura Fernandez said that everything combined maintained the tourist boom of Puerto Morelos, with beaches bursting from the presence of thousands of people during the festivities of Carnival of Puerto Morelos 2018.
She added that the tourist trend that is recorded will remain until the Easter holiday season with general occupations of more than 80 percent in the 7,000 hotel rooms. “We keep records of occupied rooms compared to those of other destinations in the north of the state,” she said.
Hector Tamayo Sanchez, municipal director of Tourism, remarked that Puerto Morelos is a destination that offers natural beauties, culture, history, cuisine and, above all, the kindness of its people, which is reflected in the fact that repetitive tourism continues to increase.
“The positioning of the Puerto Morelos brand, Pueblo con Encanto, is advancing by leaps and bounds, with its presence in national and international tourism fairs and with specific promotion campaigns to enter new markets,” he said.
