Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Taxi drivers in Puerto Aventuras have lowered their fares to match those of the mototaxis.
The new move began last week when taxi drivers agreed to lower their rates, charging the same amount as the motorcycle taxis to support the economy and the families, they say.
The cost for a taxi within Puerto Aventuras was between 30 and 35 peso, however, the taxi drivers agreed to reduce the fare to 20 peso.
By doing this, taxis now charge the same fare for transportation service within the town as the mototaxis charge.
There are already more than 100 mototaxi units operating. When they began offering their service, the taxi drivers protested, saying they were unfair competition.
