Puerto Aventuras residents without public beach access

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. – A formal request has been submitted to add public access points in Puerto Aventuras.

Due to hotel construction, access points to the local beach areas are nearly non-existant. While there is one access point next to the Omni Hotel, Gustavo Madonado Saldana says that they are hoping to add several more with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

He admits that beach access has been reduced due to the lack of property space between beachfront establishments.

“We are trying to get land where accesses are going to function and not be divided because it would be hurting the owners of the properties. We will continue to analyze until we have the best availability on the part of the owners,” he said.

Semarnat needs 90 days to determine if the beach access options will be feasible.

“We already have the acknolwedgement and can see the availability through the lands where the population can enter the sea,” said he explained.

In coming weeks, several more proposals for public beach access points will be presented to Semarnat, which will be added to those already presented. If accepted, Madonado Saldana said that the points will have to be equipped with proper paving and light infrastructure to make them usable for the general public.

In the meantime, residents of Puerto Aventuras continue to head to Akumal or Playa del Carmen to enjoy the public beachs.
