Update: After receiving three complaints from three different sources on Monday, Urban Planning officials conducted a full inspection of the hotel on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.
Eduardo Morentín Ocejo, director of Environmental Planning and Urban, reported, “It basically was a matter of cleaning kelp that has been accumulating, however we are doing ongoing monitoring, of not only this hotel, but other nearby places. We did not detect anything. The complaint was not accompanied by details or images, only the specific site. “
Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. – Hotel Catalonia Yucatan was subject to an inspection Monday afternoon by city officials who received a tip that the hotel was performing construction.
Emilio Tamargo Navarro, Councilor for Urban Development, explained that, “We received a notice Monday morning, so we sent an inspection team to see if there was work being done on the hotel. If so and they don’t have permission then we will take action. If people are working, we will close the hotel,” he said.
City officials completed their inspection of the premises late Monday afternoon. They reported that hotel Catalonia said that they were only performing remodeling.
“At the moment what we are told is that it was remodeling. What they are doing is a modification of facades, which is what motivated the intervention of the city,” Tamargo Navarro reported.
The purpose of the inspection was to verify that there was no illegal work being done by the hotel, which could result in the removal of the permits. A full report is expected.
