Public servants clean more than 175 clandestine garbage dumps around Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — So far this year, the Public Services Directorate has attended to more than 175 clandestine garbage dumps in different parts of the city, many of which, were cleaned three and four times.

Head of the city agency, Arturo Javier Quintero Díaz said many of the makeshift dumping areas were cleaned several times because people kept returning and filling them with waste.

“Clandestine garbage dumps are a problem. Right now we clean them and within days, and sometimes within hours, they are full of garbage again because in the course of the night, people arrive to throw away mattresses, furniture, appliances and so on.”

Since the beginning of March, attention has been given to the Reporta y Aporta program, which takes complaints about different problems that are usually addressed in a period of 24 to 48 hours. He says the program deals with complaints mainly regarding patching, pruning of public areas, absorption wells, public lighting and cleaning of clandestine garbage dumps.
