Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Public security in and around Playa del Carmen has been increased with the arrival of the holiday season.
Public areas including banks and ATMs have been reinforced with public security officials at the request of the General Directorate of Public Security and Municipal Transit. The reinforcement includes pedestrian patrols as well as additional security outside banking institutions and ATMs.
Martín Estrada Sánchez of the office of the General Directorate of Public Security and Municipal Transit says the objective is to protect the population and to inhibit crime, strengthening surveillance through tours and with the placement of guards to create a confident and secure environment for society.
The additional security has been extended to the streets, avenues and shopping centers to deter crime and was reiterated as one of the priorities of municipal president Laura Beristain Navarrete, to ensure that the people of Solidaridad enjoy the holiday season knowing that they are well protected.
“Together, between the three levels of government, we work to maintain vigilance throughout the city. These days we strengthen their presence in ATMs and banks since there is a greater economic movement and influx of people in the squares, self-service stores, businesses and more.
“That is why it is important to have supervision and prolonged patrolling,” reiterated Estrada Sánchez.
He also urges people to remain cautious, to keep cash out of sight and to use the ATMs that are being monitored. He says if something unusual is seen, report it to the nearest police or call the 911 emergency number adding that it is important to not accept help from strangers to withdraw your money.
He reminds users that once the ATM transaction is complete, do not forget to remove the card, money and printed documents.
