Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – In a bid to introduce a new inner city transportation system, the current location of public colectivos (combis) and Tucsa buses are set to be relocated.
All public transport combis and buses currently gather in the center of the city along Calle 2 and Ave. 20 and 25, an area that public officials admit generates a lot of congestion for both passengers and general traffic.
As it stands now, the current centro location is where passengers heading for other parts of Playa del Carmen as well as places from Cancun to Tulum, head to catch the public transportation service. However, that is set to change.
Head of Transport Commission, César Navarro Medina, says that as part of the city’s new Mobility Plan, the relocation of the public transport buses and vans will occur by May at the latest. He says that the new location will be along the outskirts of Playa del Carmen.
The move will help eliminate the daily bottleneck of traffic in that core part of the city, explaining “It is imperative to remove from the center all these stops that are the causes of the bottlenecks.”
Hundreds of local and foreign people arrive to the area every day to utilize the city’s transportation system. Along with a new location, Tucsa transportation line intends to expand its routes in Playa del Carmen. An exact location for the new combi area has not yet been determined.
