Cancun. Q.R. — The new tourism secretary for the next administration has congratulated a local architect after being appointed head of the upcoming Cancun-Plaenque train project.
Miguel Torruco Marqués, who is to become Tourism Secretary under the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, congratulated the architect Rogelio Jiménez Pons after he was appointed head of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur).
Once the new administration begins, Jiménez Pons will head one of the main projects of López Obrador for the peninsula, which is the Cancun-Plaenque train project.
Jiménez Pons stated that in December, the construction of the 900-kilometer network will begin. The network will bring tourists to Palenque, Chiapas from Cancún in a jungle journey that will take approximately nine hours.
The announcement of the construction of the “bullet train” was made earlier in July with an estimated 100 billion peso investment from start to finish. A public tender has been published to attract investors. The state has also said they will contribute to the project.
