Cancun, Q.R. — The large letters that spell out Cancun at Playa Delfines have been replaced. The popular tourist sign was put in place in August of 2014, and after millions of visitors and nearly three years of sun, it was time to replace the letters.
City of Cancun officials began the job Tuesday when a small crew arrived with tools to remove the existing letters and replace them with fresh, vibrant ones.
While they worked, a small line remained with tourists wanting to get a Cancun photo.
The General Direction of Tourism of Benito Juárez, Jane Garcia, explained that the letters of Cancun is one of the most recognized icons and attracts many for a photo opportunity.
The director ordered the new letters, which were put into place by the end of the day Tuesday. Just in time for the start of the summer tourist season.
