Police quick to make arrests in deadly Cancun residential shooting

Cancun, Q.R. — A Sunday evening shooting on a residential Cancun street has left one dead and two with serious injuries. Cancun police arrived with military personnel and elements of the National Guard, who surrounded the Privadas La Joya subdivision after the three men were shot in Los Héroes.

The targeted shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. while the three men were outside a home drinking. Area residents from Los Héroes, who reported the shooting, detailed that an armed group arrived and opened fire on the men, killing one instantly.

Two others were also hit. One of the other two men was shot twice in the head. His health status remains unknown.

Police used city C5 surveillance cameras to locate those believed responsible for the deadly Sunday evening attack. After two hours of searching, police located and arrested nine males from the nearby Privadas La Joya subdivision of Cancun.

Late Monday, Cancun authorities reported on the arrest of nine men. Those taken into custody range in age from 18 to 35.
