Cancun, Q.R. — Ministerial police of Cancun say they are officially investigating the disappearance of two taxi drivers who were reportedly removed from their vehicles.
The taxi drivers, who police say have now been missing seven days, were forcefully removed from their cars during the night hours of Saturday near the Calinda Bridge in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
Ministerial authorities say that the men were removed from their taxis near a taxi stand at kilometer 4.5 of the Boulevard Kukulcán. According to witnesses, a group of armed individuals arrived at the taxi stand and took the two drivers. To date, nothing is known of their whereabouts and they have not been heard from since.
Despite the Kukulcán operation maintained by three levels of policing, organized crimes remains present.
The Union of Tax Drivers Andrés Quintana Roo say they have increased security filters for those who want to join the union, now requesting criminal background records, anti-doping tests and references.
