Police add extra filter after firearm warning

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An extensive roadside check stop was set up at both the north and south points of Playa del Carmen yesterday as more than 30 police randomly searched vehicles.

The check stops were set up by elements of Solidaridad Public Safety who were conducting random reviews of vehicles entering and leaving Playa del Carmen after police received a warning about the possibility of the transpiration of firearms.

The General Direction of Public Safety and Traffic of the municipality of Solidaridad announced that these reports resulted in the check stops from noon until 2:00 p.m. while they randomly searched vehicles for weapons that were allegedly being transported to Cancun.

They said that this type of warning is relevant after the latest acts of violence against the city in where firearms have been used.

Check stop points are routinely set up along the Federal Highway between Tulum and Cancun as police frequently search for illegal activity to ensure public safety.
