Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – The General Hospital in Playa del Carmen has appointed a new director, replacing the doctor who was in charge nearly five years.
The move comes after numerous discrepancies, complaints and the threat of strikes last year as local doctors and nurses voiced their concerns over mismanagement, favoritism and funding problems that lead to lack of supplies, medicine and hospital maintenance.
Replacing José Bolio Rosado is Mario Enrique Hernández Murillo, a general doctor who will now head the city’s General Hospital. The replacement was announced Tuesday during the reconstruction of the framework of various government departments.
Hernández Murillo has been with the Ministry of Health for eight years, serving as director of first level units in Chetumal and as manager of the Adult Health Program and Elder in Sanitary Jurisdiction Number One, among other administrative positions.
The General Hospital opened its doors in April 2011. This is the General Hospital’s third director.
