Playa Xcalacoco gets public services, added to Blue Flag application

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — In a bid to apply for Blue Flag status, the beach at Xcalacoco in Playa del Carmen has been outfitted with bathrooms, showers and changing rooms.

The completed project was inaugurated at Playa Xcalcoco in a ceremony headed by the stand-in Municipal President of Solidarity, Samaria Angulo Sala. The Director of Zofemat in Solidarity, Hugo Uribe, was also on hand for the inaguration.

Hugo Uribe explained that “This work is a coordinated effort between the concessionaires and the municipal government. What is intended here is to provide services so that citizens can enjoy the beaches, go with their family and have access to showers, toilets, an information module, security and public services.”

The municipality of Solaridad has applied for Blue Flag status for several beaches this year. On the application list are Xcalacoco, Playa 88, Bahía de Kantenah and Punt Esmeralda, all of which have experienced upgrades including beach cleaning and public services.

There is no word yet on if any of the beaches have been awarded with the status.
