Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Although the project was supposed to be finished before the end of governor Borge’s term, the new Playa del Carmen airport remains incomplete.
Construction of the new airstrip, which is located near the town of Puerto Aventuras, remains stalled even though more than 70 million peso has been invested into the first stage of the project.
It was in 2014 when governor Roberto Borge announced a new airstrip would be built to replace the current spaced being used on 15 Ave. and First Ave. South.
The entire project was to cost taxpayers 220 million peso and include a new airstrip and access road that would enter the airport off the Cancun-Chetumal highway at kilometer 277 near Puerto Aventuras. The unfinished project will become the responsibility of the newly elected government officials, which are set to take over toward the end of the month.
