Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Avenue to get facelift

Eddie Flores Serrano, director of public works of Solidarity, said that this year, a project is being developed to improve La Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue), Playa del Carmen’s busy tourist area. The budget for planned improvements is around $15 million peso.

Serrano said that improvements and upgrades will be made to the paved roadway and that other enhancements will also be made including the addition of plants and planters, the remodeling of bicycle spaces and a new pedestrian walkway from CTM to the business side of Constituency.

Other planned improvements include a new command post for the Tourist Police, which will be moved and placed at the beginning of CTM Avenue.

According to Secretaría de Turismo, nearly 12 million foreigners traveled to Mexico in 2013, with Cancun and Riviera Maya hosting the most visitors.
