Playa del Carmen street vendor stabbed for telling man on bike Fifth Avenue is pedestrian only

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man was subdued by citizens and arrested by police after he stabbed another in the eye. The weekend incident happened along Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Avenue shopping center.

Witnesses told police that the altercation began when a street vendor told the man he was not permitted to ride his bicycle along Fifth Avenue since it is a pedestrian only street. The man left, but returned with a knife that he used to stab the vendor.

Other street vendors who witnessed the stabbing came to his aid, subduing the assailant until police arrived. The assailant is said to have been a coworker of the man he stabbed. The injured man was rushed to hospital.
