Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – A resort along Playa del Carmen was the busiest beach in Mexico over the recent holiday season.
Playacar, a resort in the southern part of the city of Playa del Carmen, was the busiest tourist area in all of Mexico. According to the Ministry of Tourism, during the first two months of this year, hotels in Playacar maintained an average occupancy rate of 90.1 percent, making it the most sought-after beach in the country.
CEO Of the online travel agency BestDay, David Rebolledo, says that “As the dollar has become more expensive in recent years, Playacar has also benefited. This destination becomes cheaper because the dollars are worth more. It also has a luxury hotel offer that attracts all travelers.”
Travel experts point out that Playa del Carmen is well-connected via the Cancun International Airport. Dozens of main national and international airlines land at the airport on a regular scheduled basis including Aeroméxico, Volaris, Interjet and VivaAerobus, allowing more foreign tourists to arrive at the Cancun airport. After landing at the airport, Playa del Carmen is a short one-hour ride by bus.
The second most popular beach over this holiday season was located in Nuevo Vallarta , Riviera Nayarit, with target markets of Jalisco, but with a growing flow of travelers from Mexico City and Nuevo Leon as well as from abroad.
In third position is Akumal, also in the Riviera Maya in the state of Quintana Roo. Puerto Vallarta arrived in fourth as the busiest beach in the national market.
Playa del Carmen beaches came in fifth place overall in Mexico followed by Cancun in sixth place. Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo also ranked among the busiest with Isla Mujeres beaches taking tenth place.
