Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen judge has found a local police officer linked to the shooting death of a young man that occurred in August of 2018.
During the hearing, defense argued that the shot had been accidental and not intentional, however, anticorruption prosecutors presented sufficient evidence that led the judge to order preventive detention of the accused while linking him to the crime of homicide.
Municipal police officer Rudy N was arrested May 17 in relation to the death of Gabriel Bernardo Ovando, who allegedly resisted an arrest last year on a Playa del Carmen roadway. During the arrest, Bernardo Ovando was allegedly physically abused and shot twice in the chest by the officer.
