Playa del Carmen police hear gunfire, arrest 1 of 2 responsible

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An armed man who allegedly opened fire on a street in the Misión del Carmen neighborhood from a motorcycle was arrested by Municipal Police, while the person driving the bike managed to flee.

It was just after 1:00 a.m. when the pair drove past a home and the passenger opened fire against the house. A patrolling police unit heard the gunfire and headed in the direction of Avenida Misión del Caribe where they saw two men on a black motorcycle, one of which was carrying a firearm.

Police immediately began a chase. The pair on the bike decided to leave it behind and try their chances on foot, however, the armed passenger of the bike was caught a few meters into the foot chase, while the driver of the bike managed his escape.

Police say they have arrested 23-year-old Juan Aurelio P.G. who is originally from Chiapas. A loaded .380 caliber gun and the abandoned motorcyle used in the shooting were seized by police.
