Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A newly appointed city official for Playa del Carmen was found executed Friday night outside his office.
The recently appointed director of Inspection and Collection of the City of Solidarity, José Enrique González Rosa, was murdered Friday night in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.
According to preliminary information, the attacker, a man wearing a white shirt and blue pants, arrived at the offices of Control located on 16th Street between 35 and 40 Avenue where he then shot the officer as he was getting into his car.
González Rosa was rushed to the General Hospital but died of his injuries.
Through a statement, Solidarity City Council confirmed the death of the Director of Inspection at 9:40 p.m., adding that he was appointed the position of director earlier this month.
“The City Council of Solidarity condemns these unfortunate events and expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of our esteemed companion.”
Reports say that on Friday, González Rosa had inspected several informal street vendors in Playa del Carmen that involved aggression by the vendors. City bylaws require all vendors to carry permits.
