Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The municipality of Solidaridad has been successful in obtaining three additional Blue Flag beach statuses.
The new Blue Flag status for 2018-2019 will now also apply to Xcalacoco, Punta Esmeralda and Bahía Kantenah in addition to Playa 88 that has already been certified. The Federal Tourism Secretariat has confirmed the new beach status certifications of excellence for the municipality.
Other Blue Flag certified beaches throughout the state include Balneario Municipal de Bacalar and in the municipality of Benito Juárez, Playa Ballenas, Playa Chac-mool, Playa Coral, Playa Delfines, Playa Marlin, Playa El Niño and Playa Las Perlas have all been certified. On Isla Mujeres Playa Centro is also with the distinction.
Salvador Sánchez Estrada, Undersecretary of Quality and Regulation of federal tourism, explained that “Mexico is a country that offers alternatives for a world class tourism and with tools such as Blue Flags, we can ensure globally that the country is a destination prepared with the highest standards of quality in our beaches and that have a responsible environmental management”.
Executive Director of the Foundation for Environmental Education in Mexico, Joaquín Díaz says, “The International Jury congratulates the national winners for increasing the number of sites and encourages national operators to implement the Blue Flag for operators of sustainable tourism boats in Mexico”.
