Playa del Carmen anticipating 97 percent sell-out for New Year weekend

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The hotel occupancy rate for Playa del Carmen currently sits at 95 percent says municipal tourism, however, they are expecting more arrivals toward the end of the month for the New Years Eve weekend.

The General Director of Tourism in Playa del Carmen, Rocío Ocampo Colmenares, reports a 95 percent occupancy rate in the city’s 38,000 rooms, noting that over the Christmas weekend, more than 66,000 visitors arrived.

He says that those visiting can be seen along the beaches, visiting cenotes, theme parks and shopping along Fifth Avenue. “There is great interest in the cenotes, which are located along the federal road to Tulum. This we found based on surveys conducted in the Tourism Modules,” said Rocío Ocampo Colmenares.

“Playa del Carmen, which is one of the most important destinations internationally, was 95 percent filled during the weekend of Christmas Eve and Christmas.”

The city will maintain with very good numbers as more people arrive toward the end of December,” said Rocío Ocampo Colmenares.

He says that Solidaridad has more than 40,00 rooms in the municipality, of which about 2,520 are located in the center of Playa del Carmen where the largest concentration of tourists are this year.

For the last days of the year, he says they are anticipating an occupancy higher than 97 percent for Playa del Carmen as more visitors arrive to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
