Playa del Carmen anniversary celebrated with traditional fair

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – The city is gearing up for Playa del Carmen’s anniversary with a 10-day celebration.

The 10 days will include a traditional festival of music and food, according to Rafael Castro Castro, senior official on the festival committee. This year, Traditional Festivals will include 10 musical groups as well as a non-animal circus act, rides and food.

“We are preparing the artistic billboard which begins Friday, July 10 and ends on Sunday 19. The festival will be filled with rides, 10 different musical presentations — one every night and programs with local artists,” he said.

This year we have also included a program that includes the Atayde Brothers Circus with their non-animal show which, like the rest of the attractions, will be free. There will be areas where artisans from the state will be selling various items.

The patron of Playa del Carmen, Nuestra Señora del Carmen or Virgen del Carmen, is commemorated on July 16.

Last year’s events included Santanera Sonora, K-Paz de la Sierra, Playa Limbo and Kumbia Kings, among others. But organizers say they expect it will be a few days yet before the artists are officially confirmed.

The celebrations of the city will also put on a musical show on July 28, when it celebrates 22 years as Solidarity being an independent municipality.
