Playa del Carmen airport undergoes much needed maintenance

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The airport at Playa del Carmen has been undergoing maintenance with government investments.

State governor, Carlos Joaquín, says the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation has been busy revamping the old airport, which is highly used. He says that the airport is important because it increases the number of visitors to Quintana Roo.

Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation, William Conrado Alarcón, said that they are investing nearly 6.5 million peso in recovering the thousands of square meters of asphalt with a fresh top and paint.

Conrado Alarcón says that the Playa del Carmen airport is an essential air bridge for the flow of people and supplies in the north of the state. He adds that the airport is also a strategic point for the flow of tourists that interconnects with the state of Yucatan and its main archaeological zones.

“In recent decades, tourism has played a vitally important role at the global level since this sector has contributed to the economic reactivation of developing countries, and in the case of Quintana Roo, the government led by Carlos Joaquín, works to strategically boost the infrastructure,” he explained.

He notes on a different function, the airport serves as an important environmental contingency for events such as fires and hurricanes, where it provides support to residents.
