Cancun, Q.R. — A dog that escaped from its yard in Cancun attacked a neighboring family as well as its owner.
The owner of a pit bull was bitten by his own dog after trying to subdue it when the animal entered a neighboring property and began to attack. The incident was reported at 10:00 a.m. in a residential region of Cancun when the 52-year-old owner of the dog opened the gate and the dog ran off.
The animal entered the property of a nearby neighbor who was outside hanging laundry and began attacking her. Hearing screams, a man in the house was trying to scare the dog into leaving the property when the owner arrived and tried to subdue the animal.
All three were bitten multiple times. The male neighbor received extensive bites to one of his hand that resulted in the loss of a finger. The owner of the dog also received extensive bites to his land, losing a piece of his palm.
Red Cross paramedics arrived but were unable to get out of the ambulance to tend to the wounded until the animal was caught. Elements of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Safety and Traffic arrived and were able to catch the dog using rope.
All three were transferred to hospital.
